NEREC (KAIST 핵비확산교육연구센터) 2018년도 제 5기 핵비확산 하계장학생 모집 안내

 

 

카이스트 원자력및양자공학과는 2014년 봄에 핵비확산교육센터(NEREC)을 신설한 뒤, 지난 4년 간 국내외적으로 다양한 교육 및 연구 활동을 추진해왔습니다. NEREC은 핵비확산 분야의 인재를 발굴하고 미래 전문가를 양성하고자 매년 여름, 약 6주간 국내외 대학(원)생들을 대상으로 하계장학생프로그램(NEREC Summer Fellows Program)을 운영하여 핵비확산의 기술적, 정책적 측면을 교육하고 실제 연구를 수행할 기회를 제공하고 있습니다.

 

올해 제5기 하계장학생 프로그램도 아래와 같이 학부생 중심의 Young Fellows Program과 대학원생 중심의 Graduate Fellows Program으로 진행됩니다. (※모든 프로그램 영어로 진행)

(1) Young Fellows Program 

 

o 기     간: 2018년 7월 8일(일) ~ 8월 10일(금), 총 5주

o 교육대상: 국내외 대학생 총 15명

o 주요활동: 원자력에너지/핵비확산 강의, 현장탐방 2회(정책연구소/원자력시설), 핵비확산학회 참가 및 포스터 발표 등

o 지원내역: 기숙사(대전 이외의 거주 학생, 5주간), 현장탐방 및 핵비확산학회 참가비 전액 등 (1인당 총 250만 원 상당)

 

(2) Graduate Fellows Program

 

o 기     간: 2018년 7월 8일(일) ~ 8월 18일(토), 총 6주

o 교육대상: 국내외 대학원생 총 15명

o 주요활동: Nuclear Risk Management 강의, 그룹정책연구, 현장탐방3회(국내 2회, 중/일 탐방 1회-대학/정부기관/정책연구소/원자력시설 등), 핵비확산학회 참가 및 포스터 발표 등

o 지원내역: 기숙사(대전 이외의 거주 학생, 5주간), 국내외 현장탐방 및 핵비확산학회 참가비 전액 등 (1인당 총 600만 원 상당)

In March 2014, the Korean government established an academic think tank called "Nuclear Non-Proliferation Education & Research Center (NEREC)" at KAIST to undertake education and research to foster international nuclear non-proliferation conducive to peaceful use of nuclear technology.

 

The Center has three objectives: (1) to train and nurture nonproliferation human resources, (2) to conduct nonproliferation policy research combining technical expertise and policy insights, and (3) to lead discussions on the peaceful use of nuclear technology and various aspects of nuclear nonproliferation.

 

As a major part of the Center’s annual activities, NEREC runs “Summer Fellows Program” for undergraduate and graduate students. For the last four years, around 99 students from top-notch universities in various countries including the United States, Singapore, Sweden, Vietnam, India, Nigeria as well as Korea were selected as Fellows and had a wonderful summer time by studying and doing research on nuclear nonproliferation and experiencing Korean culture. We would love to meet another excellent students this summer. 

 

The 2018 NEREC Summer Fellows Program, the 5th in its series, will be held as follows:

 

(1) Young Fellows Program for Undergraduate Students

- Duration: July 8 to August 10, 2018 (5 weeks)

- Place: KAIST, Daejeon, ROK

- Activities: Lectures on Nuclear energy and Nonproliferation, Debate or Role Play as a teamwork, Field Trips to Seoul and Gyeongju,Participation and poster presentation at the NEREC Conference on Nuclear Nonproliferation and Korean cultural events

- Benefits: Lodging for 5 weeks and all costs related to field trips and Conference participation (approximately USD 2,500 per person)

 

(2) Graduate Fellows Program for Graduate Students

- Duration: July 8 to August 18, 2018 (6 weeks)

- Place: KAIST, Daejeon, ROK

- Activities: ‘Nuclear Risk Management’ Class, Group research, Field trips to Seoul, Gyeongju, and China and Japan, Participation and poster presentation at the NEREC Conference on Nuclear Nonproliferation and Korean cultural events

- Benefits: Lodging for 6 weeks and all costs related to field trips and Conference participation (approximately USD 6,000 per person)
