Biography

Prof. Kim graduated from Seoul National University and received her Ph.D. from Northwestern University with the support of Fulbright Scholarship. Before coming to KAIST, she worked as a data archivist for the Social Computing Center at the University of Chicago and as an assistant professor of political science at Florida Atlantic University. Prof. Kim’s research spans three fields: science & technology (S&T) policy, international political economy, and quantitative methodologies in social sciences. As to S&T policy, her research deals with government sponsorship of basic science and big science, mechanisms of public R&D funding and evaluation, women in science, and S&T workforce policy. She has also conducted research on international variations in the patterns of science, technology, and innovation. Quantitatively trained, Prof. Kim is interested in dynamic panel data, missing data problems, and Bayesian game models. Her research has been published in International Organization, Science and Public Policy, Global Environmental Politics, Journal of Asian Studies, among others. Prof. Kim has served several governmental committees including: National S&T Vision Committee, Advisory Committee for the 5-Year S&T Workforce Master Plan, World Class University Midterm Evaluation Committee, Evaluation Committee for the Women in Engineering (WIE) Program, and Evaluation Committee for the Women in S&T (WIST) Program.
